Chase Elliott became the youngest pole winner in the 58-year history of the Daytona 500 Sunday. The 20-year old son of former Nascar champion Bill Elliott topped the field ahead of Matt Kenseth, who will start on the outside of the first row. The rest of the field will be determined through the twin-qualifying races Thursday. Elliott is entering his first year at the Sprint Cup level. He has taken over the Hendrick Motorsports ride formerly occupied by the now-retired Jeff Gordon. Hear the Daytona 500 this Sunday on WBUT 1050am.
Denny Hamlin extended Joe Gibbs Racing’s recent run of success in the Sprint Unlimited on Saturday night by delivering the organization’s third straight victory in the non-points special event and its fourth in five years.
Anthony Simonsen became the youngest major champion on the Professional Bowlers Association Tour Sunday when he won the U.S. Bowling Congress Masters in Indianapolis. The 19-year old Simonsen defeated Dan MacLelland 245-207 int he championship match, and topped the age mark set by Hall of Famer Mike Aulby in 1979.
