Summit Township has partnered with Summit Academy to notify residents when an escape from the reform school occurs.
The community was notified of the latest escape on Sunday just before 8 p.m. Residents were reminded to lock their doors and vehicles and not to interact with the students.
You can sign up to receive phone, text or email alerts when a Summit Academy student escapes by visiting Summit Township’s website. You don’t have to live in Summit Township to receive the alerts. If you don’t have a computer or means to sign up online yourself, you can call the township for assistance at 724-285-1168.
Summit Township Secretary Roxann Stickney said the alert system has been in place for a couple of weeks and appears to be working well.
There is no alert when a student has been apprehended, only when they initially escape.
