Summit Township Elementary School in Butler County remains closed for a second day today after the well water at the school tested positive for lead.
The Butler Area School District said crews are currently installing portable sinks. Bottled water will also be on-hand for use. The elementary school is scheduled to re-open on Thursday.
The district has also offered to cover the costs of blood tests for any student or staff member.
Parents say the district allowed their children to continue drinking the water for months after tests came back positive for lead. The district says a maintenance supervisor, who acted as the district water operator, misunderstood the DEP and thought the water was safe. That person has suspended with pay.
