A teenager from Delaware is facing multiple felony charges after an assault at Summit Academy over the weekend.
According to State Police, 18-year-old Zyrees Downing was a student at Summit Academy when he assaulted a female counselor after a session on Sunday night.
The counselor reported that after the session, Downing expressed his feelings for her. She explained that the feelings were not mutual, and then Downing allegedly attempted to hug her. She told him no but then he allegedly put her in a choke hold. When she tried to scream and reach for the door, she says Downing placed his hand over her mouth and locked the door. He is also accused of strangling the counselor with a purse strap before academy staff was able to enter the room.
Minor injuries to the victim were observed by police. Downing has been charged with felony simple assault and felony aggravated assault.
