A new state report shows that students benefit from later school starting times—but the Butler Area School District is holding off on any changes until decisions are made regarding reorganization.
Superintendent Dr. Brian White says he recently read a thorough report from the Joint State Government Commission about school start times.
He believes the district could begin to study the State College Area School District which is of a similar population and footprint to Butler. That district recently changed the start time of elementary students to 8 a.m. and secondary students to 8:40 a.m.
But White said he isn’t considering any changes to start times until a reorganization plan is put forward. The committee tasked with exploring options for reorganization will gather for the second of four meetings on Wednesday.
