A severe thunderstorm with high winds and the possibility of a tornado moved through parts of Butler County Monday afternoon.
The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warning expiring at 3:15 and 3:45 p.m. for Butler and all surrounding counties. There has been no report or confirmation of any funnel cloud activity.
Damaging winds have resulted in multiple calls of trees, utility poles, and wires down in Lancaster, Clay, Franklin, Muddycreek, Penn, Connoquenessing, Oakland, Clinton, and Butler Townships as well as Evans City, Prospect, and Slippery Rock Boroughs. Many of those areas are also reporting extensive power outages with over 1,300 residents currently without power in Butler Township. Several area school districts including South Butler delayed dismissal of their students until the storms moved out of the area.
A Tornado Watch will continue to be in effect until 7 p.m. Monday.
