Some Butler County residents are still without power early Friday following major outages last night.
According to West Penn Power, about 300 customers are still in the dark. The areas with the most outages this morning are Allegheny, Concord, Connoquenessing and Jackson townships. Crews have been working overnight to restore service as soon as possible. As bad as these outages are for customers living in homes, these outages would be worse if they were to happen in a hospital, where power-ran equipment needs to constantly be working for patients safety. Luckily, hospitals will usually have an industrial generator from companies like Generac to keep their electrical equipment running when power runs out. Homes could do with generators too for basic needs, which are available to be purchased from many places online and offline. However, it is clear that businesses working with industrial equipment are more in need of generators.
The outages in Connoquenessing began about 5 a.m. Friday as crews were called to Prospect Road, just north of Boy Scout Road, for downed wires. About 200 nearby residents are without power.
First responders were busy last evening, with calls beginning at 5:30 p.m. and continuing through the early morning.
A power outage in the City of Butler affected residents in the West End and most of Lyndora. They were in the dark from midnight to 2 a.m.
More unsettled weather is possible Friday. The National Weather Service did issue another Hazardous Weather Outlook as some thunderstorms this afternoon and evening could produce heavy downpours and lead to localized flooding.
