Stewart-Haas Racing has scheduled a Wednesday afternoon press conference amid widespread reports that three-time Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart will announce that he is retiring as a driver after the 2016 season. There is widespread belief that Clint Bowyer will compete for a one-car team operation next season, then take over Stewart’s #14 car after Tony’s retirement. After winning his third NASCAR championship in 2011, Stewart has missed the post-season Chase in three of the last four years and currently carries a sixty-nine-race winless streak dating back to June 2013.
