The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 25-13 Sunday at Heinz Field. Back-up quarterback Landry Jones threw two touchdown passes in relief of Michael Vick to lead the Steelers in the comeback win. Vick suffered a hamstring injury in the third quarter of the game. Jones went 8-of-12 for 168 yards. He hit Martavis Bryant for both scores. Jones had never taken a regular season NFL snap prior to seeing action Sunday. Vick was ineffective prior to the injury, throwing for only six yards. Kicker Chris Boswell hit four field goals in the game. Offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum was lost for the season with an ACL injury. The Steelers visit Kansas City Sunday.
The Pitt Panthers football team is ranked number-25 in the Associated Press poll, the first time Pitt has cracked the nation’s top-25 since 2009. Pitt defeated Georgia Tech 31-28 Saturday to improve their record to 5-1. The Panthers are undefeated in the ACC at 3-0. They have sole possession of the Coastal Conference. Pitt’s only loss was a last-second field goal to number-12 Iowa, who are 7-0. Pitt will visit Syracuse this Saturday.
