The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted linebacker T.J. Watt with the 30th pick in the NFL Draft last night in Philadelphia. He was a second-team All-American who had 11-1/2 sacks and 15-1/2 tackles for a loss for the Badgers. He is the younger brother of Houston star defensive lineman J.J. Watt.
Former Steelers running backs Franco Harris and Jerome Bettis were on hand to salute the late Dan Rooney, and Bettis made the Steelers selection announcement.
Former New Castle high school star Malik Hooker was selected 15th overall by Indianapolis. The safety comes out of Ohio State. He is just the seventh player from the WPIAL to be selected in the first round over the past 25 years.
The Draft resumes tonight at 7pm with rounds two and three. It continues tomorrow with rounds 4-7 beginning at noon.
