Governor Tom Wolf announced plans Monday to reduce the amount of classroom time student spend taking standardized exams.
Beginning next spring, the testing time for the PSSA’s will be reduced by 20 percent for students in grades three through eight. Some sections of the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment tests, known as PSSA tests, have been removed and others shortened.
The governor said he’s responding to concerns from parents, teachers and students about the amount of time they must dedicate to standardized tests, which are mandated under federal law.
Wolf hopes the change will allow teaches to focus on providing students with a complete education rather than preparing for one exam.
