The Pennsylvania Department of Health is expected to announce Tuesday the recipients of medical marijuana grower and dispensary permits.
A press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The state plans to issue 12 grower/processor permits and 27 dispensary permits statewide as part of the first phase of the program’s rollout. The state was broken into six regions; Butler County is grouped into the southwest region, which will be awarded five dispensary permits and two grower/processor permits.
In our area, local company Cresco Yeltrah is vying for one of the permits. They already started work on a site in Butler’s Pullman Center where their facility would be located.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf signed a medical marijuana bill into law in April 2016. Patients can apply for a state-issued medical marijuana card if a doctor certifies they have one of 17 qualified medical conditions including epilepsy, cancer and seizure disorders.
