The Pennsylvania State Senate recently held a hearing on the rising costs of higher education.
Republican State Senator Rosemary Brown says she is a parent with children enrolled in college and that it’s becoming a financial burden on families.
“As a legislator in this position with three children; one getting done with college and one getting ready to go. We feel the pain,” Brown said. “We are very concerned personally for our children. And I’m concerned as a legislator for the state of Pennsylvania and the people I represent.”
Colleges in the state system have tried to hold tuition at the same price, but rising costs have made it difficult. One university president said salaries and benefits are increasing, which is putting the burden back on the students.
