A bill approved by the state senate earlier this week is aimed at protecting students from hazing.
House Bill 1574 makes changes to the Anti-hazing law.
The offense of hazing is currently limited to incidents at a college or university which occur as a condition for initiation or admission to an organization affiliated with that college or university.
This new legislation expands the definition to include any incident that is done as a condition of admission into any organization. This bill also requires public and private high schools to adopt written anti-hazing rules and plans for enforcing them.
The bill will next return to the state house for approval of senate amendments.
