A local lawmaker is introducing legislation that would place restrictions on where landfills can operate.
Republican Tim Bonner of the 8th District says there is currently no law in place that can restrict where a waste disposal site can be located.
The proposed law would prohibit a landfill from being located, within three miles of the border of any municipality that has a population density of 1,000 people.
Bonner believes there’s enough space in the state to house landfills, and that this is a reasonable distance to implement the restrictions.
