State police are warning of a new scam involving the Zelle app.
Zelle is a financial service offered by many banking institutions that allows people to send money to customers of other banks.
In this scam, the fraudster sends a text claiming to be from the bank’s fraud department and says the victim had a suspicious payment through Zelle.
They then ask to verify your identity and notify the victim that a code will be sent to their phone.
Ultimately, the scammer is looking for you to reset your password so they access your account and take the money.
Police say to not answer the text, and to be careful about apps like Zelle, Venmo, and Cash app.
