It is illegal to drive your vehicle without clearing it of snow and ice.
Corporal Adam Reed with the Pennsylvania State Police says the offense comes with a $25 fine, but if the ice on your vehicle flies off while you’re driving and injuries or kills another person, you’re looking at a minimum $1,000 fine.
Reed says drivers should also be aware that it’s against Pennsylvania law to warm up your car by leaving it unattended. If your car is parked at your own home on private property, the law doesn’t apply…but it does apply if you’re parked in a public place or on the street.
Police ask that you take the time to not only scrape the ice from your windows this winter but also your car roof, to be sure flying snow won’t cause an accident.
