State police officers in Butler got soaked for a great caused yesterday participating in the second annual Polar Pop.
Athletes from the Special Olympics were on hand to pop water balloons over the heads of troopers with the state police.
Trooper Josh Black says that after the success of last year’s event, the state police officers were more than willing to get wet again.
“It’s always a good event that we do. Not only does it bring the station together, but it brings us together with the Special Olympic athletes,” Black said. “We have some fun and get a little break from our normal days, so it’s nice to do that on our end.”
The Polar Pop coincides with the Polar Plunge that happens in Pittsburgh at the end of the month.
Black says that while some troopers may participate there, they enjoy having an event here in Butler.
“It was so well received by us here at the barrack and the community so we thought we would do it again,” Black said. “Plus, not a lot of people can go down to Pittsburgh on a Saturday, so it gives us a chance to come together as a station and support the athletes here.”
Donations can be made to the Special Olympics or by going to the Polar Plunge on Saturday, February 26th.
