State Police are warning residents to be aware of a scam recently reported in nearby Clarion County.
Police say that a man in Knox received a mailing from American Family Sweepstakes and Promotions telling him that he won nearly $800,000 in prize money.
The man was contacted by phone and swindled into making nearly $5,000 in payments in order to receive the prize.
Police advise that people do not allow themselves to be bullied into paying money or giving personal information to receive a prize. Anyone receiving strange calls or mailings that seem “too good to be true” should contact a family member, friend or police.
