New research shows that state lawmakers are set to receive another raise next year that could take most of their salaries above $100,000.
According to the news outlet LNP in Lancaster, a cost of living adjustment will lead to a nearly five percent raise for lawmakers. The average base salary is around $95,000.
The raise happens automatically due to a law enacted in 1995—which tied lawmaker’s salaries to cost of living adjustments. The law passed because lawmakers did not want to vote on their own pay increases.
Now, lawmakers have an option to return their pay to the state treasurer. However, only a handful have done so in the last four years—that includes local State Representative Tim Bonner.
