Lawmakers have sent a package of bills to Governor Tom Wolf in an effort to fight Pennsylvania’s opioid crisis.
Five separate bills were approved in the state House and Senate Wednesday.
The legislation would limit the quantities of opioids prescribed to emergency room patients to seven days. It would also limit the amount prescribed to minors.
One of the bills would also improve doctor education, while another mandates insurance coverage of abuse-resistant opioids.
Experts say nearly 3,500 Pennsylvanians died from overdoses last year, with 80 percent of those deaths involving heroin, fentanyl, prescription opioids or some combination.
