An emergency state funding bill is moving to the desk of Governor Tom Wolf.
Republican Representative Tedd Nesbit who represents parts of Butler and Mercer Counties was one of the lawmakers who voted to pass the bill by a 117 to 83 margin. “What we’re trying to do is get an emergency budget passed that gets us through the first four months and gets some of the people that need the money paid. Let’s just get this passed, we’ll worry about some of the big ticket items later.”
Since the bill has already passed the PA State Senate last week, the next stop is the office of Democratic Governor Tom Wolf. Republican Representative Brian Ellis thinks that the governor should sign this compromise.
“We have real folks out there who need the money. The governor’s holding it up. He’s the only one that has the ability to decide weather or not this goes through. He’s indicated that he doesn’t think that it will but we need it to happen,” Ellis explained.
The emergency funding plan would release $11 billion of state appropriations retroactively from July 1st through October 31st. The bill would also allow $24 billion in federal money to be channeled to the organizations expecting it.
