Governor Tom Wolf is expected to sign a bill into law that would raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco and e-cigarettes in Pennsylvania.
The new law requires you to be 21 or older to buy tobacco products in the state.
The bill wasn’t without opposition though, with some lawmakers noting that it strips away rights from legal adults.
Democratic Representative Chris Sainato from New Castle.
“Legal adults are losing their rights. And in good conscience, I can’t do that,” Sainato said. “It’s not about cigarettes and vaping, it’s about taking rights from legal adults.”
There is an exception in the bill that allows for military veterans or service members to purchase tobacco if they are over 18.
