Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official is taking action to prevent residents from price gouging during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced that his office has received more than 5,000 complaints about businesses allegedly hiking prices.
This resulted in Shapiro sending nearly 470 cease and desist letters, issuing about 200 subpoenas for further investigation, and the discovery of 27 businesses where price gouging allegedly occurred.
Very specific rules are in place defining price gouging during a disaster emergency and anyone who believes they have evidence of a business doing this is asked to contact the office of the Attorney General.
