Pennsylvania has approved a new series of permits to sell medical marijuana.
The state Department of Health says the 23 remaining permits will bring the number of dispensaries to 79 in Pennsylvania, once each location meets the state’s standards to open. Each permit allows the holder to operate up to three dispensary locations.
During this round, no permits were issued to companies in Butler County. There are currently two local dispensaries- one in the city of Butler and another in Jackson Township.
The department says it has registered more than 98,000 patients to use medical marijuana and issued more than 66,000 identification cards that allow the holder to buy medical marijuana at a dispensary.
