The South Butler School District and its teachers can’t come to a compromise.
Teachers rallied before Wednesday’s school board meeting and then packed inside with others all wishing for an end to this three-year stalemate.
By a unanimous vote, the school board on again voted to accept a compromise proposal made by a state labor board-appointed mediator. But, teachers’ union representative Brook Witt said there will not be a second vote by the union.
The union is expected to notify the board today of their final decision to reject the compromise proposal. Last week, Witt said the union overwhelmingly agreed they couldn’t accept this latest proposal because it would have set them “years behind their previous contract” because of wage freezes.
Negotiations are expected to resume by the end of the month.
