This school year, which kicked off Wednesday, marks 150 years of Christian education at St. Luke Lutheran Church and School in Cabot, PA.
Classes started in 1866 in a one-room schoolhouse in Jefferson Township, which by the way, still stands on the property next to the church. Now, over 250 students in grades Pre-school through 8th grade go to school there.
To commemorate the milestone, an entire year of events has been planned. To kick things off, a special opening service was held Wednesday morning. Then on the weekend of September 13, 2015 guest speaker Rev. Willis McCall, a 1995 graduate from St. Luke Lutheran School, will be preaching at each of the church’s services. (Saturday’s service – 6:00 p.m…..Sunday morning – 8a.m. & 10:30 a.m.) A picnic will follow at noon that will feature pony rides, a bouncy house, balloon release, and plenty of games.
Other scheduled events for the 2015-2016 school year include:
September 21 – Dennis Barger “Starfish Program”
October 8 – Living History Program “French & Indian War/American Revolution”
