This weekend wraps up a year’s worth of celebrations to mark 150 years of Christian education at St. Luke Lutheran Church and School in Cabot, PA.
Classes started in 1866 in a one-room schoolhouse in Jefferson Township, which by the way, still stands on the property next to the church. Now, over 250 students in grades Pre-school through 8th grade go to school there.
We asked Principal Mark Wilt his thoughts on what 150 years means. He told our newsroom, when he thinks back to how times, people, and families have changed, the one thing that hasn’t is God’s word. He says the public feels like, “It’s a safe place to send their kids. It’s a family place.”
Throughout the year many events took place to commemorate the milestone. There were special guest speakers, an About A Mile concert, a Living History Program, and more.
The final celebration is this weekend, June 3, 4, & 5, 2016. The following is this weekend’s schedule.
June 3
6:00-8:00 PM – Family picnic, bonfire, and games
8:00-10:00 PM – Open Mic – come and share your talents – go solo or bring your whole band.
