Slippery Rock University quarterback Roland Rivers III was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Athlete of the Year Wednesday. Rivers III is the fourth Rock athlete to earn the award, voted on by the head coaches in the conference. He currently leads all of Division II with 40 touchdown passes, and also leads in passing efficiency and points responsible for.
SRU head coach Shawn Lutz was named PSAC-West Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
Rivers III was joined by receiver Henry Litwin, kicker Jake Chapla, and two offensive lineman on the Western Conference First Team. Three Rock defensive players also received First Team honors. In total, Slippery Rock had 14 players receive state honors. They have a “bye” week for the opening round of the NCAA playoffs and will host a game next Saturday, November 30th.
