Slippery Rock University senior wide receiver Henry Litwin was named to the highest academic honor in the nation, and The Rock football team tied for the most selections in the country when the College Sports Information Directors of America announced their Division II Football Academic All-America Team Saturday. Litwin was named the 2021 Academic All-America Team Member of the Year, becoming the first Slippery Rock student-athlete in any sport to earn that distinction. He is also the first football player in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference history to be recognized with the honor. Litwin was named to the first team Academic All-America honor for the third consecutive year. He is joined by center Austin Wayt and Cinque Sweeting, who both received second-team honors. Slippery Rock tied with Colorado School of Mines and Augustana University for the most selections among Division II schools.
Shepherd quarterback Tyler Bagent has been named the winner of this year’s Harlon Hill Trophy, given to the best player in Division II football. He is the sixth winner from the PSAC, and second consecutive following Slippery Rock’s Roland Rivers III. The PSAC has now had a Harlon Hill winner in four of the last 10 seasons.
Saturday – Ferris State won their first-ever Division II national football title, with a 58-17 victory over Valdosta State.
