Slippery Rock University head football coach Dr. George Mihalik won his 190th career game at The Rock Saturday with a 56-21 Homecoming victory over California. The Rock is now 24-4 under Mihalik during Homecoming games. Slippery Rock will travel to Erie to play Mercyhurst this Saturday. Kick-off is noon. The game will be televised national on ESPN3.com and the Watch ESPN app.
Penn State’s offense broke through for a 29-7 Homecoming victory Saturday over Indiana. Next up the Nittany Lions visit top-ranked Ohio State Saturday night.
Pitt also won their Homecoming game with a 26-19 victory over Virginia Saturday at Heinz Field. Pitt is now 4-1 and travel to Georgia Tech Saturday.
University of Southern California head football coach Steve Sarkisian has been forced to take a leave of absence by USC athletic director Pat Haden. Haden made the decision after Sarkisian missed a practice. He also had an embarassing moment at a booster event earlier this year when Haden had to pull him from a stage because he appeared to be drunk.
The University of Maryland fired head football coach Randy Edsall after the Terps fell to Ohio State 49-28 Saturday. The loss dropped Maryland to 2-4 this season. They had gone 22-34 under Edsall, including 10-24 in conference play.
