The Slippery Rock University council of trustees approved a 2% tuition increase during their quarterly business meeting Friday.
If approved by the State System Board of Governors early next year, the tuition increase will go into effect for the 2022-23 school year.
The motion passed by a vote of 6-5. Trustee Jeff Smith cast a dissenting vote saying that he would like to see an increase in state funding.
Last year, the State System of Higher Education announced a tuition freeze, and the SRU trustees formalized that move by rescinding a previous proposal for a tuition increase.
For undergraduate students at Slippery Rock, basic in-state tuition will increase by $154 to cost $7,870 for the academic year beginning this fall.
