Reinhardt earns his second straight first team Academic All-America honor, while Anderson was named to second team honors in her first season of eligibility for the award.
Nominations for the Capital One Academic All-America team are submitted by members of CoSIDA. The All-District teams are voted on by the sports information directors in each district and the Academic All-America team is voted on by a national committee.
In order to be nominated for consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing, must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and must have significant athletic credentials. Only student-athletes selected to the Academic All-District team in each district advance to the national ballot. The cross country and track and field Academic All-America program considers all performances in cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field.
Reinhardt, a junior thrower from Bradford, Pa., was named to first team Academic All-America honors last season after winning the NCAA Division II title in the javelin. While he didn’t repeat as the national champion this year, Reinhardt managed to put together another outstanding season in multiple events. He scored points for the team in the weight throw during the indoor season and then earned All-Region honors in both the hammer throw and the javelin during the outdoor season. He placed third in both events at the PSAC Championships to earn All-PSAC honors in each and finished the year with the third best hammer performance in the region (53.42 meters) and the fourth best javelin throw in the region (60.33 meters). At the time nominations were due, Reinhardt owned a 3.74 cumulative GPA in SRU’s 3+3 exercise science/Doctor of physical therapy program.
Anderson, a sophomore athletically but nearly a senior in academic standing with 89 credits after just two years on campus, earns her first career Academic All-District honor in her first year of being eligible for the award. At the time nominations were due, Anderson owned a perfect 4.0 GPA in SRU’s 3+3 exercise science/Doctor of physical therapy program. On the track, the Warren, Pa. native had an outstanding sophomore campaign that saw her earn All-Region honors in the high jump and pentathlon during the indoor season and in the high jump and heptathlon during the outdoor season. She won the PSAC title in the pentathlon indoors and broke the SRU school record with a score of 3,584 points. She also cleared an NCAA provisional height of 1.72 meters in the high jump. Anderson has earned All-Region honors in the high jump and the multi in each of her seasons at SRU so far.
