Jeremy Parsons<http://www.rockathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=9945> placed eighth in the 10,000-meter finals Thursday night to lead the Slippery Rock University men’s track and field team on the first day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships from Mansfield University.
Parsons hung with the lead pack for most of the race before finishing eighth in 32:07.99 to pick up one point for Slippery Rock in the team standings. It was his first 10k effort at a PSAC championship meet on the track.
The 10k was the only final that took place on the first day of the three-day meet, but the first five events of the decathlon also took place earlier in the day.
Slippery Rock had a strong showing in the multi and came away from day one with two athletes placed in the top five.
Erick Lee<http://www.rockathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=9938> enters the final day of the 10-event competition in fourth place with 3,096 points. Nate Zigler<http://www.rockathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=9959> is one spot behind him in fifth place with 3,076 points.
Lee ran 12.01 seconds in the 100-meter dash to score 649 points, leaped 5.80 meters in the long jump for 544 points, threw the shot put 11.76 meters for 592 points, cleared 1.71 meters in the high jump for 552 points and ran 51.23 seconds in the 400-meter dash for 759 points.
Zigler ran 12.01 seconds in the 100m for 649 points, leaped 6.06 meters in the long jump for 600 points, threw the shot put 10.15 meters for 495 points, cleared 1.86 meters in the high jump for 679 points and ran 53.68 seconds in the 400m for 653 points.
The final five events of the decathlon will take place Friday morning. Officials announced Thursday night that the entire meet schedule would move back one hour to try to avoid potentially bad weather forecasted in the morning. The first event, the decathlon 110-meter hurdles, will now begin at 11 a.m.

Jenny Picot<http://www.rockathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10094> and Shannon Byerly<http://www.rockathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10056> earned top five finishes in the 10,000-meter run to lead the Slippery Rock University women’s track and field team on the first day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships Thursday from Mansfield University.
Picot earned All-PSAC honors with a third place finish in the only final that was contested on the first day of the three-day meet. She crossed the line in 38:08.09.
Byerly had one of the best races of her career, maintaining contact with a lead group of five runners for five miles and coming home strong to finish fifth in 38:11.98.
The two top-five efforts from the SRU distance runners equaled 10 points in the team standings, enough to put The Rock in a tie with East Stroudsburg for first place after one event.

Sabrina Anderson<http://www.rockathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10050> had a strong first day and leads the field with 3,084 points entering the final three events Friday. She posted a time of 14.76 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to score 874 points, cleared 1.67 meters in the high jump to score 818 points, threw the shot put 11.30 meters for 615 points and ran a 26.23 second 200-meter dash for 777 points. She had the best high jump and shot put mark among all athletes in the competition and posted the second best mark in the 200m and the 100m hurdles.
Kaelyn Keane<http://www.rockathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10080> moved up throughout the first day of the heptathlon and enters the final day in 10th place with 2,223 points. She ran 17.62 seconds in the 100m hurdles, cleared 1.46 meters in the high jump, threw 10.31 meters in the shot put and ran 28.82 seconds in the 200m.
