Students at Slippery Rock University are doing what they can to help those affected by hurricanes in Texas and Florida.
An on-campus organization called the Student Nonprofit Alliance has teamed with the Slippery Rock Student Government Association to coordinate a campus-wide hurricane relief campaign.
The campaign begins today and runs through Sept. 23. Individuals who donate will be asked to pick one organization for their dollars to support- Catholic Charities, Red Cross or Salvation Army. Funds will then be divided between that organizations relief efforts.
Donations can be made online.
“Over the past two weeks, we have watched in disbelief as the hurricanes have devastated southeastern Texas and now Florida,” Alice Del Vecchio, assistant professor of interdisciplinary programs and nonprofit leadership program coordinator, said in a statement. “Some of us have families and friends who were impacted by these storms and many of us have visited these communities and know their beauty first hand. All of us have been humbled by the havoc these storms have brought to people’s daily lives and most of us have wondered what we can do to help. No donation is too small.”
Those wishing to participate can:
-Make an online donation at www.srufoundation.org/snahurricane.
-If your club or organization is considering a fundraising event, funds raised can then be added to the campus-wide effort by donating them online at www.srufoundation.org/snahurricane or by providing a check payable to SRU Foundation/Student Nonprofit Alliance Hurricane Relief which will be added to the campus campaign total.
-Repost information about the campaign and ask friends, classmates and others to considering an online donation at www.srufoundation.org/snahurricane.
The SNA will provide post-campaign information including total amount raised, amounts donated to each organization in each state, and the number of individuals and student clubs and organizations that participated in the campaign.
