The Slippery Rock University football team snapped a three game losing skid on Saturday, as they beat the visiting Seton Hill Griffins by a final of 33-21.
Senior quarterback Don King III started for SRU. He suffered a concussion against Edinboro two weeks ago, and was not expected to play in Saturday’s game. King finished with 322 yards passing on 33 completions, and two touchdowns. Runningback Isiah Neely was Slippery Rock’s leading rusher, finishing with 62 yards and one touchdown. Receivers Marcus Johnson, Carnel Harley, and Cornelius “Miley” Ray combined for 17 receptions and 219 yards. Drew Scales broke the school’s all-time career kick-return yardage record, and also finished with eight reception.
Defensively, the Rock was lead by Butler graduate Bob Vernick, who had 18 tackles and two interceptions. John Conglose had thirteen tackles, and Marcus Martin had 10 tackles and one and a half sacks. Roman Denson also had two of SRU’s six interceptions.
