Slippery Rock University is a “cool school” according to a nationwide environmental organization.
The Sierra Club named SRU among its Top 125 “Cool Schools,” which compares various factors in campus sustainability.
Schools were ranked in areas including energy usage, recycling, food sourcing and curriculum. SRU scored highest in the category of planning due to the President’s Commission on Sustainability, which advises administrators on more responsible environmental strategies.
“Our commitment to environmental sustainability is at the very core of what we do each day at SRU,” President Cheryl Norton said in a statement. “Our staff, faculty and students continue to seek out new opportunities to protect the environment through deliberate and thoughtful policies, actions and efforts that serve to improve our sense of ecological and social responsibility.
Slippery Rock University was the only institution from Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education to make the Sierra Club’s list as one of 2016’s greenest universities.
