The impact of recent graffiti messages on the campus of Slippery Rock University will be a topic of conversation at an upcoming presentation.
The first discussion in a series called ‘Courageous Conversations’ sponsored by SRU’s Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion team will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.
This presentation is called ‘Culture and Symbols’ and will focus on incidents of hate-speech that occurred across the country before, during and after the 2016 presidential election. Slippery Rock University was not immune from election-time messages. Officials say several instances of anti-Trump, anti-Clinton and anti-immigrant chalkings appeared on sidewalks across campus.
Small and large groups will discuss the positive and negative impact of symbols, as well as how students can take responsibility for the use and meaning of those symbols.
