Freshmen applications are up at Slippery Rock University.
School officials say the roughly 3 percent increase in applications for SRU’s summer and fall 2016 terms over the previous year is likely due to the addition of several new undergraduate and pre-professional programs.
“The increase in freshman applications illustrates a greater awareness of the range, diversity and quality of our academic programs,” Amanda Yale, associate provost for enrollment management, said in a statement. “New programs in health sciences, human services, engineering and criminology are leading the way. Pre-professional programs, in particular, have drawn a strong interest from our prospective students and their families.”
SRU says they have also increased their numbers of online classes, improved scholarships award levels and launched a new website to increase brand awareness. For Summer 2016, SRU has scheduled more than 200 classes online, Yale said.
The school says transfer and graduate studies applications for this fall have also increased.
