A couple of local schools are pitching in with the effort to use 3D printing machines to make personal protective equipment to help medical workers.
One of the groups pitching in with this effort is made up of several teachers with the Seneca Valley School District. During the ongoing school closure, some elementary and secondary Seneca Valley teachers planned and created headbands and face shields. They have made dozens so far but are accepting monetary donations to buy additional supplies to make more.
Eight 3D printers from different departments at Slippery Rock University have been delivered to the homes of faculty members to allow them with some student help to create plastic frames for face shields. So far 80 have been delivered to Allegheny Health Network Grove City Hospital while another 20 have gone to the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue team. Each frame took nearly three hours to print.
