The Slippery Rock University women’s indoor track and field team took third overall at the PSAC championships Sunday at Edinboro University. Butler graduate Kennedy Evans won the state title in the 200-meter dash and anchored the 4×400-meter relay to a victory. Another Butler grad, Emily Horstman was also a part of the winning relay team. Evans was runner-up in the 60-meter dash, just missing an SRU school record.
The Rock men lost the state championship by 1.5 points to champion Shippensburg, who won their seventh consecutive title. Slippery Rock high school graduate Ryan Thompson was named the Overall Most Outstanding Athlete of the meet. Thompson won the mile-run by six seconds Sunday in a time of 4:11.
The Slippery Rock men’s basketball team visit Mercyhurst tonight at 7:30pm in the opening round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs.
