If you’re looking for something active to do on New Year’s Day, you can take a hike on the North Country Trail in Moraine State Park.
The Butler Outdoor Club says it’s the best way to start the year out right. The event is appropriately-named the ‘First Day Hike’ and will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1.
Hikers should meet at the park’s bike rental lot on the North Shore. Hikers can decide to walk between one and five miles on moderate terrain. Some points of interest will be the new bridge over Muddy Creek, the Lake Arthur dam, the new solar array, and the trail under Route 422.
Friendly dogs on a leash are welcome.
