The South Butler Community Library has completed a major renovation project.
The focus of this recent renovation- which started in January- was the library’s front room. Visitors will notice new lighting, shelving, carpet and paint…as well as new rolling bookshelves. Lesniak says those are unique to have in a small library.
“When you walked in the front door before, all you saw were long stacks of books that were 7 feet high,” Library Director Michelle Lesniak said in an interview with Butler Radio. “Now, all the tall shelves are in the back and everything you see is mobile and short. You can see the whole library now. And it’s very bright.”
Lesniak says one of the new features inside the library is compact shelving, which are bookshelves that are on a rail so they can roll.
“It’s very unique to have compact shelving in a small library,” she said.
The renovation was not budgeted for this year and only happened because of a large donation from a longtime supporter of the library, Robert Rhule. Rhule passed away in 2016 at the age of 90 and left money to the library.
