Four South Butler School District water sites that continue to test abnormally high for levels of lead and/or copper will be permanently removed.
A representative of the water engineering firm Gannet Fleming presented this conclusion to the South Butler School Board after analyzing data collected last month. All South Butler facilities are served by public water.
It was first revealed in July that 38 sites within the district tested abnormally high. The district replaced fixtures at each of those sites. Additional rounds of testing and corrective actions have reduced the remaining problem sites to two at the Intermediate school, one at the primary school and one at the high school. None of those fixtures have been used by students or staff since the problems were identified.
The district will likely employ a program of periodic testing in the future just to make sure that water quality stays within acceptable limits.
