The South Butler County School Board will consider the purchase of two additional metal detectors as administrators work to make the screening process more efficient.
Superintendent Dr. David Foley called the first two days of sending students through the metal detectors “a trying experience”. However he and other administrators remain confident that as students become more comfortable with the process, efficiency will increase.
Foley is recommending that the district purchase two additional metal detectors at a total cost of about $7,000 to be placed in the captured entrances of the schools on a permanent basis rather than moving ones there from other locations during the school day.
The school board will decide on this purchase at their regular meeting next week. If approved, the addition would bring the total number of metal detectors used by the district to 11.
