The South Butler School Board has authorized the design and solicitation of bids for an expensive paving project.
On Wednesday night, the board passed a motion to move ahead with soliciting bids to pave what officials say are two high-traffic problem areas at the Intermediate, Elementary and Primary schools. The cost for the project is estimated to be over $400,000.
This work was originally planned for last year but was put on hold as the district waited for the state budget stalemate to be resolved. Estimated construction costs have risen since then and are expected to continue to rise.
Bids will be formally accepted in March with a final decision for authorizing the paving expected in April. That would allow for the majority of work to be done over the summer of 2017.
