We knew it was coming eventually, but some weren’t expecting to see it so soon.
A light coating of snow was spotted in several areas around Butler County early Friday morning. Around 7 a.m., wet snow was coming down in the city of Butler but didn’t leave a coating behind in many locations.
It’s unclear when the first “big” snowfall of the season will happen. Forecasters with the National Weather Service are calling for snow flurries early Saturday with temperatures struggling to get out of the 30s.
Whatever happens, PennDOT is ready.
“We will have trucks stationed at every stockpile ready to go in case we do get snow,” PennDOT District 10 Maintenance Manager Mike Mattis said in an interview on Thursday. “We have already received our initial order of salt. We’re stocked up.”
Mattis says about three weeks ago, the fleet of trucks stationed at the Butler County Maintenance Garage were pulled out of storage and readied.
“We have 42 trucks that cover roughly 1,600 miles of road in Butler County,” Mattis said.
He asks local residents to be patient with PennDOT and assures them all their plow workers are working as hard as they can during every storm.
