A veteran of local government is mounting an organized write in campaign for one of the two available Republican spots for Butler City Council.
Former Butler City Treasurer Jeff Smith is trying to collect 100 write in votes in today’s primary election in order to appear on the general election ballot this fall.
Currently, only James Kemple is listed on the ballot for Republicans in the city who choose to vote for City Council candidates today. Democratic candidates Kathy Kline, Ken Bonus, and Dane Winkler will compete for two available spots on that side of the fall ballot.
Smith said that he made the decision to run a couple weeks ago because he doesn’t think that any of the candidates understand that the neighborhoods need to be saved if the city is to be saved.
