Led by new quarterback Dante Nania, Slippery Rock exploded in the second half to take down New Haven 39-13 on the opening weekend of the 2015 season.
Playing in the unique Ralph DellaCamera Stadium at the University of New Haven, Nania was heavily involved in his first game as The Rock’s quarterback, going 32-54 amassing 269 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Shamar Greene carried the load on the ground, running for 119 yards and a touchdown.
Running back Julian Durden was responsible for the other rushing touchdown. Nania hooked up with wide receiver Taishan Tucker twice for touchdowns through the air and capped things off with a 12 yard TD pass to Cornelius Raye at the end of the game.
The Rock finished with 446 yards total in exactly 100 plays.
Slippery Rock will play East Stroudsburg in front of a national audience next week at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Pre-game coverage begins on The Rock Station 97.7 at 6:30 p.m. with the Dr. George Mihalik Show and then Bob Cupp and Glenn Thompson will carry the coverage up till kickoff, slated for 7:00 p.m.
