A local university has officially broken its enrollment record.
Slippery Rock University, located in the northern part of the county, released their enrollment statistics this week; which indicated a student population of 8,881 through the first 15 days of the new academic year.
The figure also shows a nearly three percent increase in total enrollment from the 2015-2016 school year, and an increase in graduate students by nearly 16.5 percent.
University officials credit new academic majors and programs, scholarships, and other university related programs such as Living/Learning Communities within the residence halls as contributing factors to the increase in enrollment.
